Thank
you for visiting the W. H. Burnett webpage. W. H.
Burnett is a family of highly qualified professionals
advocating for engaged, responsible learners in a
safe, nurturing environment, collaborating to produce
extraordinary outcomes with engagement of all
stakeholders. As a Title I school we provide the
following services for our students:
Counseling
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Dual Language (One way in PK/HS and Two way in
Kindergarten)
Gifted and Talented Education
Special Education
Services
504
Services
Speech

Math
and Reading Intervention for Kindergarten
Positive
Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and
Conscious Discipline
We
are very proud that we are a PBIS campus (Positive
Behavioral Interventions and Supports). This means
that we use positive strategies and Conscious
Discipline techniques in order to have a positive
learning experience, respectful students/staff, and a
safe environment. Our students and staff follow these
guidelines daily:
Care
for Everyone and Everything
Use
Good Manners
Be
Ready
Show
Respect
As a
Dual Language campus we work on building our students’
vocabulary in both English and Spanish on a daily
basis. Parents have the option to apply for the Dual
Language program in Kindergarten. Students who
participate in the program will be able to speak,
understand, read and write in English and Spanish by 6th
grade. Research shows that students that are
bilingual do better in school. The students will also
have a marketable skill.
Prekindergarten and Head Start students are not
required to wear uniforms to school. Kindergarten
students must wear uniforms to school on
Monday-Thursday. They may wear jeans on Fridays as
long as they wear a TISD school spirit shirt. Jeans
shorts, capris, etc. are not allowed on Fridays. Our
building is labeled in English (blue) and Spanish
(red) so that the children will be able to learn
words in both languages. We encourage the kindergarten
students to wear a RED uniform shirt on
Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays because Spanish is the
language of the day and a BLUE uniform shirt on
Tuesdays/Thursdays because English is the language of
the day.
We
have a fabulous volunteer program in TISD and we would
love for you to be a part of it. You must attend a
volunteer training one time and fill out a criminal
background packet annually in order to become a
volunteer for TISD. Please look on this webpage for
the upcoming dates for the volunteer training.

Thanks again for visiting our webpage. Burnett is
always striving to improve our campus so if you have
any suggestions, questions, or concerns, please let me
know because I am here to help you and your child.
Please do not hesitate to call if you would like to
schedule a tour of our wonderful
campus!
Sincerely,
Angela Barton,
Principal
