Terrell ISD Employee Benefits

Employee Benefits
Insurance

Group health insurance coverage is provided through TRS-ActiveCare, the statewide public school health insurance program. The district’s contribution to employee insurance premiums is determined annually by the board of trustees. Employees eligible for health insurance coverage include:
Employees who are active, contributing TRS members, or
Employees who are regularly scheduled to work at least 10 hours per week

The insurance plan year is from September 1 through August 31.

Or TRS-ActiveCare, 1-866-355-5999

A new hire in a TRS-covered position who is a TRS member on his or her actively-at-work date enrolls for coverage within 31 days after the actively-at-work date.  The employee's effective date is the employee's choice of:
(1) his or her actively-at-work date, or
(2) the first of the month following the employee's actively-at-work date.

Cafeteria Plan Benefits
Employees may be eligible to participate in the Cafeteria Plan (Section 125) and, under IRS regulations, must either accept or reject this benefit. This plan enables eligible employees to pay certain insurance premiums on a pretax basis, i.e., disability, accidental death and dismemberment, cancer and dread disease, dental and additional term life insurance. A third party administrator handles employee claims made on these accounts.
Teacher Retirement
All personnel employed on a regular basis for one half or more of the standard full-time workload are eligible for membership in the Texas Teacher Retirement System (TRS).

Day Care
Terrell ISD’s Project HOPE on-site daycare for full-time district employees is convenient, cost-effective, safe, and reliable.

Employees pay $16.00 per school day for the care of children age 13 to 18 months, and $14.00 per school day for children 19 months through 4 years or entrance in school. Care begins in August at the start of regular teacher in-service and ends the last day of school. The fee for daily care is multiplied by the number of days an employee works. That total is then divided over 12 months of pay (September-August) to reduce the cost per month for the parent. All charges are paid through a payroll deduction.
 Example:
     $14.00 × 187 days in contract = $2618 divided by 12 months = $218.17 per month deduction.
     $16.00 × 187 days in contract = $2992 divided by 12 months = $249.33 month deduction.

Hours are 7 am to 4:45 pm daily.  We are open all 187 days of regular school and in-service. Employees that work different contract schedules will have to make other arrangements for days outside the 187 day year.  We estimate 15 total yearly openings for employees’ children, including approximately 12 openings for ages 2 to 4 years, and 3 openings for ages 13 months to 23 months.  For enrollment or program information, please contact Laurie Black, Project HOPE Director, at 972-551-1153 or email her at blackla@terrell.ednet10.net.
